All Hat and No Cattle
All Hat and No cattle:
One of my favorite sayings I have learned while down south.
Synonyms
•all bark and no bite, all bluff and bluster, all booster, no payload, all crown, no filling, all foam, no beer, all hammer, no nail, all icing, no cake, all lime and salt, no tequila, all mouth and no trousers, all mouth and trousers, all shot, no powder, all sizzle and no steak, all talk, all talk and no action, all wax and no wick
Or as they say up east. “your full of sh&%!”
This is exactly what I mean when I say, here down south they can tell you off in a nice sort of un rude way. Up east they get right to the point, and drop the “your full of sh%$” quote to throw you off guard and put you immediately on the defensive, Boom! there it is, what ya gonna do? Your response may be—“ um, No, YOUR full of sh&$!” Depending on the situation, this could lead to a more intense discussion or even some potential physical activity.
Somebody telling you that you are all hat and no cattle might get you to respond-“well, thank you, you like my hat?” not really knowing the intentions. Southerns have a very good way of letting you know where they stand, in a nice delayed reaction sort of way. I have found that I may be thinking I am in a pleasant conversation only to reflect on the conversation a few hours later and finding out that I was just put in my place. Southerners have a very good bull poop meter, northerners need to take notice, don’t bull poop down here, they can detect crap before it is even spoken.
Some lyrics from a song with the same name:
Artist: Adkins Trace
Song: All Hat, No Cattle
See that boy standing there by the dance floor
He's looking' like the Marlboro Man
Starched shirt, starched jeans, big trophy buckle
And an empty Copenhagen can
He's talkin' cowboy this and cowboy that
Well I'll bet one thing's for sure
The only stampede that he's ever seen
Is the clearance at the western store
All hat and no cattle, that boy just ain't real
All boots and no saddle, don't know how to make a cowgirl feel
Think I'm gonna tell him to pack up his act
And go back where he came from
'Cause all hat and no cattle ain't gonna get it done
Not bad, sort of a pleasant way of saying it.
Now up North, we can agree that we don't mix words.
Take this song titled “Your full of sh&%” it has a bit of northern attitude: from a rapper named pitbull:
I know you full of sh&%
*chorus*
Your so full of sh*& (x8)
There's something about you that makes me
Gotta get away, gotta get away yeah yeah
There's something about you that makes me think
You're full of sh&%!
You're full of sh&%!
Lemme hear ya,
You're so full, full of sh&% (that's right)
You're so full, full of sh%$ (4x)
(You got some serious fuc&$%#' issues to work out)
You're so full, full of sh&% (that's right)
You're so full, full of sh&% (4x)
Get my point?
