I must be the only writer in the US who is not participating in NaNo. Just imagine me as the cowboy or superhero who wears some dashing outfit and says..."I work alone."
Yep, that's me. Except I'm not a man. And my outfit comes in the form of the gym clothes I wear all morning so I don't have to change multiple times. And I don't have a horse, I have a computer.
You'll probably think I'm crazy, but the thought of doing NaNo makes me nervous. I'm a very private, mysterious writer. I don't like anyone anywhere to know what I'm writing. I used to wish no one knew I was even writing period, but that got a bit extreme...considering I am a writer.
I suppose I should at least give NaNo a try sometime. That way I won't be unfairly assessing it. But I'm not doing NaNo this year because:
- I already started a story, and I don't know if I have 50,000 words left to go.
- I'm already distracted enough as it is. With all the NaNo forums and groups and discussions or whatever else goes on, I'll be spending more time on the NaNo website than actually writing.
- As I said before, I don't want anyone to know what I'm writing!
- Seeing what other people are writing or how far they've gotten makes me insecure. (Hard to admit something like that, but it's true.)
Those are the main ideas that come to mind. Are you doing NaNo this year? Why? Are you not doing NaNo this year? Same question: Why? (Or maybe that's "Why not"?)
